Neurology Insights Europe

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In Europe, the economic cost of neurological diseases was estimated at about 139 billion euros in 2004. A new report from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that neurological disorders, ranging from epilepsy to Alzheimer’s disease, from stroke to headache, affect up to one billion people worldwide. Neurological disorders also include brain injuries, neuroinfections, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

In recent years, there has been a major shift in emphasis within neurology from being a largely diagnostic discipline to one much more actively involved in treating disease. There have been major scientific advances leading to new and effective treatments. There is also a much greater awareness of the burden of neurological disease and informed sufferers are requesting specific intervention. There is wide variation in the delivery of neurological services throughout Europe. This is reflected in manpower levels, the place of neurology related to other medical specialties and different mixes of hospital and private office practice. These differences have been thrown into sharper focus by the recent expansion of the European Union (EU).

As a result of this, Sovereign Medical is producing Neurology Insights Europe to provide an in-depth analysis and overview of the neurology market, focusing on the most recent developments in addressing unmet needs in a variety of neurological disorders such as dementia, motor neuron disease, migraine and stroke. The report will serve as a source of information for a targeted audience of medical doctors and professional caregivers involved in providing diagnosis, management and treatment regimens for all neurology related disorders.

The publication contains independently commissioned clinical and scientific editorial from the principal thought leaders and key opinion leaders from within the European neurology sector, providing new clinical developments and therapies. Areas to be covered will include Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, migraine & stroke.
