Lima Airport Partners S.R.L. (LAP) is the concession holding company that runs Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport (JCIA) since February 2001.
The Peruvian government granted LAP the concession for a period of 30 years for the construction, improvement, conservation and exploitation of the JCIA, in accordance with the requirements established by the Concession Agreement signed between LAP and the Peruvian state.
The main shareholder of LAP is Fraport AG, one of the world leaders of
the airport industry. At Frankfurt Airport it operates one of the most important
air transport hubs, and as a provider of integrated services it has a presence
in many countries throughout the world, including Egypt, Bulgaria, Turkey,
China and India.

As of June 2008, the composition of the company has been established in the following terms: Fraport AG with 70.01% of share capital; the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, with 19.99%; and the Peruvian Fund for Investment in Infrastructure, Public Services and Natural Resources, managed by AC Capitales SAFI S.A., with 10%.
When JCIA was first opened in December 1965, it boasted all the facilities of a modern air terminal and offered a number of services not seen at the region’s other airports, such as a crčche for children and a nightclub with a dining room able to seat 300 guests and in which stars like Paul Anka performed. In those days, Jorge Chávez was one of the most modern airports in Latin America.
More than 35 years would pass before Lima Airport Partners became the concession holder of JCIA in February 2001. At that time, the airport was in need of a number of improvements in its infrastructure to enable it to recover its position as a regional market leader, and to that end the Peruvian state ruled that during the “Initial Period” of the project – from February 2001 to December 2008 – LAP should carry out all the obligatory improvements required of the concession holder under the terms of the Concession Contract.
The first stage of work was completed in January 2005. The passenger terminal, which in 2001 covered an area of 39,467 sq m, was almost doubled in size to 65,528 sqm; the existing infrastructure had been completely renovated; 7 modern boarding bridges had been installed and many other improvements completed. In this way, after four decades, Jorge Chávez International Airport re-established its position as a leader among the airports of the region and presented to the world a modern, safe and efficient airport.
By the end of December 2008 the construction work corresponding to the “Initial Period” of the project was completed. Today, the passenger terminal covers an area of 84,570 sq m and the platform, which in 2001 covered just 165,000 sq m, is now 304,881 sqm in extension, in order to accommodate 39 parking positions for aircraft. In addition, 12 additional boarding bridges have been installed where the national and international terminals have been enlarged, bringing the total number of Jorge Chávez boarding bridges to 19. In the commercial area, passengers now have access to one of the largest and most varied selections of goods and services outlets, with the construction of 13 new premises and the remodelling of 4 others, bringing the total of commercial premises at the airport to 63, which are operated by 34 concessionary companies.
As of June 30, 2009, LAP has invested a total of US$ 263.2 million.
Lima, the capital of Peru, is located on the central west coast of South America, at the very centre of the continent. Its strategic location makes it an important interconnection point for passengers in the region, meaning that two foreign airlines, LAN and TACA, have located their centre of operations at Jorge Chávez International Airport.
Meanwhile, passengers and users considered JCIA as the best airport in South America for 2005, 2008 and 2009 (according to the annual survey carried out by the English-based Skytrax Research). And our goal is to keep up with that performance and expectations.
At present, over 8.5 million passengers travel through the Lima Airport. There are 20 airlines operating in Peru serving 27 non-stop international destinations and 15 non-stop domestic destinations.
