CLIMATE CHANGE :: addressing the CHALLENGE

KPMG Europe LLP

In association with KPMG International

The only publication to bring together key global stakeholders who are essential to reduce the inevitable effects of global warming, and creating a low carbon economy vital for economic prosperity.

The second edition of CLIMATE CHANGE will be published in Autumn 2008. This ambitious publishing initiative is positioned to be the definitive information and reference source on climate change and will set out the agenda for Governments, NGOs, corporate business leaders and their advisors. Our aim is to deliver the best analysis in countering the devastating effects of global warming and the measures that all parties need to take to mitigate its damaging effects.

Produced to the highest standard and finish, the publication will feature contributions from world leaders, including the G8 members, the world’s top scientists, and organisations such as the WTO, WHO, UN, NATO, ECB, BBC, IPCC, (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency, The World Bank, IFC, IMF, EBRD and The Royal Society. There will also be comment from captains of industry. This will ensure that CLIMATE CHANGE will truly be an historic and major publishing event when launched.

CLIMATE CHANGE will celebrate and sculpt the necessary framework for global success by addressing the following issues:

  1. Helping governments and their agencies to create policy, leadership and understanding, that will become the building blocks for everyone to work within.
  2. Working with business leaders to stimulate discussion with governments as well as new ideas and strategies that will be vital for their future success as climate change beckons.
  3. Showcasing new technologies, key research and the latest scientific developments in order to combat climate change.
  4. Economic risks and opportunities, new legislation and policy required as well as specialist advice to all stakeholders to work together to beat the challenges a changing climate brings.
  5. Carbon management strategies now and beyond 2012. Addressing how the global carbon market will work, trading schemes and carbon reduction strategies needed to limit our overall climate effect.
  6. Developing the perfect adaptation strategies. What are the key physical effects of climate change and which thresholds will be affected? How will both the public and private sectors need to adapt their thinking, structures, and models within new and changing parameters?
  7. Legal and insurance impact of entering into climate change initiatives without taking the necessary advice.
  8. Infrastructure and energy requirements and how these will change as climate change effects traditional methods. Working with industry to design new techniques and sustainable sources needed to survive.
  9. Renewable Energy. How will micro generation and ESCOs change businesses energy supply? What is needed by government and leading energy companies to get more renewables schemes off the ground?
  10. Reviewing the financial markets. How will the lending and investment community influence business valuations and share prices moving forward?
  11. Education and skills training that will influence future generations’perceptions, ideas and way of life. This will include community and public awareness programmes to educate everyone to learn to live within a low carbon society.
  12. Protecting the environment by working with businesses, international and local agencies and policy makers to achieve long term success.
  13. Creating strategies for world-class sustainable development programmes. Which sustainability strategies will have the best success rate?
  14. Impact on water and food sources. How will climate change put strains on our basic necessities?
  15. Border disputes and the developing world. What are the likely consequences and what action is needed?
